Yenagoa, September 4, 2025 — As Bayelsa Queens FC prepare to battle host team ASEC Mimosas in the final of the WAFU B Champions League qualifiers in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, Governor Douye Diri has issued a passionate appeal to corporate organisations and stakeholders to rally behind the team’s historic campaign.

Speaking during the 172nd Executive Council Meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri urged businesses, oil companies, and well-meaning individuals to complement the state government’s investment in sports by supporting Nigeria’s sole representative in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

“We should have our Bayelsa Queens in prayers,” the Governor said. “Whatever substance you have as a Bayelsan in support of what the state government is doing for our team should be done.”

He cited Premium Trust Bank as a shining example of corporate social responsibility, recalling the bank’s donation of a Coaster bus to Bayelsa Queens during the last edition of the Governor’s Prosperity Cup. He praised the institution for its consistent support and called on others to follow suit.

Governor Diri congratulated the team on their unbeaten run and remarkable performance in the tournament, emphasizing that their success is a source of pride for the state and the nation.

Bayelsa Queens, a state-run football powerhouse, are no strangers to continental competition. In the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2022, they won the WAFU B qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire and went on to finish third in Morocco — a feat that cemented their status as one of Africa’s elite women’s football clubs.

Now, with another final looming on Friday, September 5, the call for support is louder than ever. The Governor’s message is clear: Bayelsa Queens deserve the backing of every stakeholder committed to sports development and national pride.
