Bayelsa State’s athletics team is set to light up the tracks as they begin their participation at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The much-anticipated competition kicks off on Friday, May 23, 2025, inside the prestigious M.K.O Abiola Sports Arena.
A Strong Start for Bayelsa on Day 1
Team Bayelsa Athletics will feature in all four scheduled athletics events on the opening day. The action begins early, as Queensley Asedo takes on the women’s 10km walk at 7:00 AM, setting the pace for the team’s campaign. In the afternoon, Edatomola Psalm Lebi steps up at 12:30 PM, followed by Hope Aruya competing in the women’s long jump.
Sprint Kings & Queens Ready to Shine
Bayelsa’s sprint squad will take on the 100m races, featuring three male and three female competitors. On the men’s side, Lucky Daje, Augustine Ezuiruike, and David Shalom will battle it out for glory, while the women’s event sees Sophia Efetoboere, Sigah Perezide, and Iyanu Vivian chasing victory.
Relay Squad Gears Up for Action
As the competition heats up, Bayelsa’s 4x400m mixed relay team—comprising Ezechukwu Faith, Sarah Lori, Bright Benson, and Tamunotonye Abagwu—is set to hit the tartan tracks and showcase their teamwork and endurance.
