Former champions Crusaders FC of Peretorugbene have secured a place in the quarter-finals of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament—Prosperity Cup.
The 2022 champions triumphed over Nembe City FC with a 2-1 victory at the Otuasega Township Stadium. After a dominant opening 30 minutes, Ebiotu Boloigha put Crusaders FC ahead in the 40th minute, converting a well-placed delivery from midfield. Ayibaitari Abraham equalized for Nembe City FC in the 63rd minute, offering a glimmer of hope for his side. Just when a penalty shootout seemed inevitable, Ebiye Jeremiah fired home a last-minute winner, crushing Nembe City’s quarter-final dreams.
In the second match at the Otuasega Arena, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei’s PNA FC of Koluama defeated Federal University, Otuoke 2-1 to book their place in the money-spinning stage of the tournament.
- Ebi Dan opened the scoring for PNA FC in the 35th minute with a stunning individual effort.
- Kaka Saviour leveled the match for Federal University in the 50th minute after a well-connected pass.
- Kojo John restored PNA FC’s lead five minutes later, sealing the quarter-final spot with a decisive goal.
