The quarter-final action in Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football spectacle, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament—Prosperity Cup, is separating the boys from the men as the competition intensifies.
EGM FC Edges PNA FC in a Nail-Biter
In the first quarter-final clash at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Eternal Grace Ministry (EGM FC) of Yenagoa secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Professor Nimibofa Ayawei’s PNA FC of Koluama.
PNA FC entered the match with a near-perfect record, having scored 19 goals and conceded just one throughout the tournament. Their attacking duo of Ebi Dan and Kojo John had been prolific, but EGM FC’s tactical discipline successfully neutralized their threat.
The decisive moment came in added time, when Samuel Pedro struck the winner, sealing a well-earned victory for EGM FC, who had previously claimed the Yenagoa LGA finals.
Bayelsa United Feeders Hold Off Movers FC
In the day’s other quarter-final showdown at the same venue, Bayelsa United Feeders edged out a highly competitive Movers FC of Otuasega 1-0 to secure their place in the semi-finals.
A 9th-minute goal from Obediah Bethel proved enough to give Bayelsa United Feeders a hard-earned victory, despite Movers FC dominating possession for most of the match.
