Yenagoa, August 15, 2025 — Team Bayelsa has officially departed Yenagoa for Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, to compete in the Zonal Elimination ahead of the National Youth Games (NYG) 2025 scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta State from August 26 to September 6.
Led by the Acting Director of Sports, Mr. Andrew Aye, the team comprises male and female athletes across ten sports disciplines: Abula, Softball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, Handball, and Football.
With a contingent strength of approximately 250 members, including 164 athletes, coaches, team officials, security personnel, drivers, media representatives, and secretaries, Bayelsa is aiming for full qualification in all events to ensure robust representation at the youth edition of the National Sports Festival.
Speaking before departure, Mr. Aye expressed confidence in the team’s readiness:
“Our target is to qualify in all sports. Bayelsa is fully prepared, and we expect to excel in the games. We have carefully selected our strongest athletes and coaches to ensure we perform at our best.”
The elimination rounds will run from August 15 to August 19, serving as a crucial test for the athletes before the national showdown in Delta State.
Bayelsa’s sporting community is rallying behind the team, hopeful that their performance in Uyo will set the tone for a successful outing at NYG 2025.
