Bayelsa United endured their first loss of the 2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Sunday, falling 1–0 to Niger Tornadoes in a Matchday 3 clash at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.
The Prosperity Boys entered the fixture riding high on back-to-back victories over Shooting Stars of Ibadan and newly promoted Barau FC of Kano. However, their momentum was halted when Ismaila Sarki found the net in the 27th minute, converting a precise cross from Abba Khalid to give the hosts a deserved lead in front of a vibrant home crowd.
Despite a slow start, Bayelsa United gradually settled into the game, creating several chances through Nneoyi Ofem and Wisdom Magbisa—both of whom came close but couldn’t convert.
The result sees Bayelsa United drop to third place on the NPFL table with six points, while Niger Tornadoes climb from 10th to 6th following their win.
Looking ahead, Bayelsa United will host Enyimba International FC this weekend at the Samson Siasia Stadium in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Speaking after the match, Technical Adviser Monday Odigie remained optimistic, stating that the team showed resilience and that identified mistakes would be addressed before the next fixture.
