The Hall of Fame at the Samson Siasia Sports Stadium in Yenagoa witnessed an unprecedented and impactful lecture session as athletes, coaches, secretaries, and sports administrators gathered for an in-depth training on drug abuse and doping.

The seminar, organized by the Bayelsa State Drug Abuse, Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports Development and the Bayelsa State Sports Council, proved to be a highly engaging and educational experience, equipping attendees with critical knowledge on substance abuse prevention in sports.

Despite the tight training schedules, athletes displayed remarkable dedication, staying through an intensive five-hour session, attentively absorbing insights from seasoned experts. With the National Sports Festival in Ogun State fast approaching, this training was timely and essential, ensuring Bayelsa’s contingent competes with integrity and awareness.

Seven distinguished speakers took the stage, covering key topics such as drug abuse, doping regulations, healthy coping mechanisms, and sports nutrition. Dr. Peter Owonaro, Chairman of the Drug Abuse Committee, led the discussion with an insightful session on drug abuse, while Dr. Justice Akpotu, Head of Medical at the Bayelsa State Sports Council, followed up with a crucial segment on doping in sports. Other experts, including Dr. Henry Prince Osain, Dr. Charles Ronari, Dr. Otakho Daniel Orumwense, and Dr. Chai Francis, delivered engaging presentations, making the event one of the most enlightening sports lectures in recent times.

The event was declared open by the Honorable Commissioner for Sports Development, Chief Daniel Baraladei Igali, whose presence served as a significant morale booster. Similarly, Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Grace Alagoa, was commended for her unwavering commitment to sports development, staying engaged throughout the program.

Bringing the session to a close, the Executive Director of Sports, Sir. Braveman Eredoye Wodi, represented by Director of Organizing, Mr. Aye Andrew, delivered the vote of thanks, signaling the end of an educational and transformative experience.
