President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Honourable Daniel Igali, has commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, for his unwavering commitment to sports development and capacity building within the Nigerian military.
Igali’s praise follows the CDS’s approval to sponsor Lieutenant Colonel Timipre Okou to represent Nigeria at the 3rd World Beach Wrestling Series and the African Beach Wrestling Championship for U15, U17, and U20 categories, taking place in Casablanca from September 2–8, 2025.
In a statement released through NWF Media Assistant Promise Okotoko, Igali described the CDS’s investment in sports as a visionary move that strengthens both national security and youth development.
“We are very proud of the CDS’s innovations aimed at enhancing the ability and capacity of military personnel to perform complex tasks, which will aid national and regional security environments,” Igali said.
He emphasized that regular sponsorship of military athletes and officials to international programs not only boosts tactical skills but also fosters global awareness and collaboration.
“With such support from individuals and institutions, Nigerian wrestling will continue on its path of progress,” Igali concluded.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Timipre Okou, an international wrestling referee and member of the Sports Science Commission of the International Military Sports Council, has arrived in Morocco. He will participate in a three-day World Beach Wrestling Referee Course before officiating matches at the African Championship.
His presence marks another milestone in Nigeria’s growing influence in global wrestling circles and underscores the military’s active role in promoting sports diplomacy.
