Yenagoa, Nigeria – Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has rallied support behind Nigeria’s Super Falcons, charging the nine-time African champions to bring home their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

Speaking during the Weekly “Prosperity Walk” at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Thursday, Governor Diri praised the national team’s determination and winning spirit, especially in their gripping 2-1 semi-final victory over defending champions South Africa in Casablanca.
“They have done it nine times before. Now, the media calls it Mission X. The people of Bayelsa and the Government of Bayelsa are solidly behind our girls,” Diri declared.
The Super Falcons, having powered past Zambia and South Africa, are now set to compete in their 10th WAFCON final this weekend in Morocco. Governor Diri emphasized that their journey through the tournament—from group stage to the final—embodies the resolve and tenacity of true champions.
He further urged the team to stay focused and finish strong, noting that their performance has reignited confidence among Nigerian supporters.
“Their semi-final triumph is a reflection of true grit. We wish them all the best as they go for glory,” he added.
The governor’s rallying message has added momentum to national support, as anticipation builds ahead of the Falcons’ showdown in Morocco.
