Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has rewarded the state’s heroic athletes for their stellar performance at the recently concluded All African Wrestling Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, with a total prize package exceeding 14 million Naira. The Governor, visibly elated by their achievements, announced cash rewards of 2 million Naira for each gold medalist, 1 million Naira for each silver medalist, and 700 thousand Naira for each bronze medalist. Meanwhile, the team coach was honored with a remarkable 2.5 million Naira.
Speaking at the Executive Council Chambers in Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri warmly received the victorious athletes—proud representatives of Bayelsa—declaring that their achievements have made both the state and the nation proud. “Your hard work and success on the international stage have brought immense joy to Bayelsa and Nigeria,” he stated.
Presenting the athletes and their trophies, Commissioner for Sports Development Dr. Daniel Igali expressed his gratitude to Governor Diri for his steadfast support of the team. “This reward is a testament to our commitment to nurturing talent and investing in sports development here in Bayelsa,” Dr. Igali remarked.
With this generous reward, Bayelsa State continues to reinforce its foundation in excellence in African wrestling, setting high standards and inspiring future generations of athletes.
