Bayelsa Queens Football Club didn’t just win the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership—they brought the house down and got rewarded like true champions.

Governor Douye Diri, in a stunning show of appreciation, splashed millions on the team for their exceptional victory. Each of the 26 players walked away with ₦4 million, while even the non-playing squad members got a cool ₦1 million each. Now that’s what you call gratitude with a goal!

💸 Breakdown of the Governor’s Sports Bonus Blitz:

  • Head Coach: ₦4 million
  • Chairman of the Board: ₦3 million
  • Assistant Coaches: ₦2 million each
  • Backroom Staff: ₦1.5 million each
  • Board Members: ₦1 million each
  • Supporters Club: ₦3 million

Governor Diri, speaking at the 167th Executive Council Meeting, radiated pride in the team’s accomplishment and fired them up ahead of the upcoming WAFU Zone B tournament. With the president himself known as a sports lover, the governor urged the Queens to go for glory—not just for Bayelsa, but for Nigeria.

He didn’t stop there. The governor also announced a salary review for all state-owned male and female football teams—an upward boost sure to ignite fresh motivation across the board.

Premium Trust Bank, a sponsor of the Queens, chipped in too—dropping ₦2 million for players and technical staff. The synergy of government and private support is a winning formula.

Daniel Igali, Commissioner for Sports Development, gave special mention to standout performers:

  • Best Goalkeeper: Monle Omini
  • Best Goalkeeper Coach: Oyinkuro Frank
  • Best Coach of the Season: Whyte Ogbonda

Bayelsa Queens are not just building a legacy—they’re living it. Their dominance is more than just football—it’s a statement.
