The event marked the commencement of a new 25,000-capacity Bayelsa State stadium project in the peaceful community of Igbogene, flagged off by Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. This event was part of the activities celebrating the fifth anniversary of Governor Douye Diri’s administration.

Chief Baraladdi Daniel Igali, the State Sports Department Commissioner, highlighted the need for a new and better sports edifice after almost three decades of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex’s existence.
The event also saw goodwill messages from the federal government, the Chairman and DG of the National Sports Commission (NSC), the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and a member of the FIFA Executive Council.
The highlight of the event was the foundation laying and unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Dr. Jonathan.
