The Commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Honourable Daniel Igali, reaffirmed his support for the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) during a courtesy visit by the new SWAN Bayelsa executive team to his office in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

The World and Olympic champion emphasized the pivotal role played by sports journalists in sports development, pledging continued support for SWAN’s activities.

“I appreciate this courtesy visit and congratulate the new SWAN executive team in the state. I urge you to strive for the advancement of sports,” Igali remarked. “SWAN plays a critical role in the development of sports. Without you, our efforts here would be hindered as sports needs to be showcased. Therefore, we are committed to supporting all SWAN activities to the best of our ability.”

He added, “Our doors are always open, and we will ensure SWAN is involved in our activities and tournaments.”

Earlier, Comrade Timinepre Ohia, Chairman of SWAN Bayelsa Chapter, congratulated the commissioner on his re-appointment by Governor Douye Diri to oversee the affairs of the Sports Ministry. She also highlighted some challenges faced by SWAN members in the state and reaffirmed the association’s dedication to promoting sports ministry activities.

In conclusion, Timinepre Ohia called for a harmonious working relationship and increased involvement of SWAN in sports ministry activities. The meeting was attended by Mrs Grace Alagoa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, and Mr George, Head of Department for Sports.
