In an epic showdown at the Imiringi Township Stadium, Citiboi FC of Imiringi dethroned Movers FC of Otuasega to emerge as the Ogbia Local Government Area champions of Nigeria’s marquee grassroots football tournament—the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, Prosperity Cup.

The final saw both teams locked in a barren draw during regulation time, with a pulsating first half that showcased Movers FC’s early promise. The trio of Elton Mina, Precious Omonibo, and Appah Sydney nearly broke the deadlock on three separate occasions, thrilling the massive crowd despite their inability to convert their chances. However, the absence of the Ogbia Council Chairman, Hon. Jeremiah Golden, and his cabinet did nothing to dampen the atmosphere, as passionate fans filled the stands, eager to witness history.

The second half brought a dramatic shift in momentum. Citiboi FC, leveraging their exposure in the Nationwide League One, tightened their game plan. Their formidable defensive line—Azibalua Jerome, Ola Elton, and Benard Amikpo—rose to the occasion, neutralizing every goal-bound threat from Movers FC’s attacking lineup. With regulation time ending without a goal, the title was to be decided by the nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

In a pulsating climax, Citiboi FC edged past Movers FC 5-4 on penalties, etching their name among the elite as the latest LGA champions to join the ranks of Agbere FC, Adaka FC, Crusaders FC, and Nembe City in the ongoing Prosperity Cup.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the victorious Head Coach Gomo Onduku credited his side’s competitive edge to their exposure in higher-level competitions, while warmly acknowledging the support of the Prosperity administration for empowering the state’s youth through sport. In contrast, Movers FC coach Sunday Mackay maintained that his team was the better side over the course of the match and urged Citiboi FC to be on high alert for a rematch in the Round of 32.

The champions walked away with a reward of ₦1,000,000, while second-placed Movers FC pocketed ₦500,000. With this monumental victory, Citiboi FC has not only claimed their rightful title but also set the stage for the next chapter of grassroots excitement as the tournament shifts to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. On Thursday, 15 May 2025, at 2:00 PM, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei’s PNA FC of Koluama will welcome Oyoma FC of Oyoma at the Southern Ijaw Secondary School, Oporoma (SISSO) Field.
