In a heartfelt ceremony that blended gratitude, reflection, and celebration, the Association of Senior Civil Servants, Ministry of Sports Development Unit, hosted a memorable send-forth event in honor of two distinguished officers—Mrs. Ayebatonye Isaiah and Mr. Yola Godbless—who have each dedicated 35 years of unwavering service to the government.
Held in the presence of colleagues, family members, and well-wishers, the event marked the graceful exit of two pillars of the ministry whose careers have spanned decades of transformation in Nigeria’s sports administration.
Chairman of the unit, Comrade Ayawei Darlington, opened the ceremony with words of appreciation, commending all attendees for joining in the celebration of two remarkable careers. He praised the retirees for their commitment and integrity, describing them as role models whose footprints will remain etched in the ministry’s history.
“Retirement Is Not the End—It’s a New Beginning”
Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Nicholas Digha Menidin, delivered a stirring tribute, urging the retirees to remain steadfast in faith and embrace the next chapter of life with optimism.
“Retiring from the civil service doesn’t mean retiring from life,” he said. “Many have served and never lived to see the end of their journey. But you are healthy, sound, and stepping out with honor. That is our prayer for every civil servant—to live and enjoy the fruits of their labor.”
He went on to assure Mrs. Isaiah and Mr. Godbless that the future holds abundant opportunities, both financially and personally, and commended the unit’s leadership for organizing the event without direct ministry support—a rare and commendable feat.
“This kind of initiative has never happened before. It shows what’s possible when leadership is driven by vision and heart.”
A Gathering of Leaders and Legacy Builders
The event drew Heads of Department from across the Ministry, underscoring the significance of the occasion. In his remarks, Mr. George Mark, Head of Sports, emphasized the importance of post-retirement engagement, particularly in agriculture, encouraging the retirees to invest in ventures that promote sustainability and community development.
“Agriculture is a powerful tool for empowerment. I urge our celebrants to consider it not just as a business, but as a legacy.”
A Legacy Worth Celebrating
As the curtains fall on the careers of Mrs. Ayebatonye Isaiah and Mr. Yola Godbless, the Ministry of Sports Development salutes their dedication, resilience, and impact. Their retirement is not just a personal milestone—it is a moment of collective pride for a ministry that continues to shape the future of sports in Nigeria.
Their story is a reminder that service, when done with heart and purpose, leaves behind more than memories—it leaves behind legacy.
