Bayelsa Queens FC, popularly known as the Prosperity Girls, kicked off their campaign at the 5th CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers with a gritty 2–1 victory over Ghana’s Police Ladies FC on Sunday. The match, held at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, showcased the Nigerian side’s resilience and attacking flair.

Despite a dominant start from the Ghanaians in the opening ten minutes, it was Bayelsa Queens who struck first. In the 12th minute, Shakirat Moshood found the back of the net, capitalizing on a well-worked move to give her side the lead heading into halftime.

The Prosperity Girls doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute through Emem Essien, whose clinical finish capped off a sustained period of pressure. Police Ladies responded swiftly, pulling one back in the 68th minute via Mary Berko, but Bayelsa Queens held firm to secure all three points.

Shakirat Moshood’s standout performance earned her the Player of the Match award, underlining her influence in the midfield and attacking transitions.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Whyte Ogbonda praised his team’s determination:

In the other Group B fixture, Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic edged ASKO FC of Togo 1–0, setting the stage for a competitive group battle.

Bayelsa Queens will return to action on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, when they face ASKO FC of Togo. A win in that encounter will guarantee the Prosperity Girls a spot in the semi-finals, bringing them one step closer to continental glory.
