About BYSSA
The Bayelsa State Sports Academy (BYSSA), Asoama was established by Law in 2013 by Bayelsa State House of Assembly, and was charged with the responsibility of balancing education with Sports and recreation in the State by providing courses of research, instruction and training for Sportsmen, Coaches and Administrators, appropriate for a sports academy of the highest standard.
The Bayelsa State Sports Academy (BYSSA), is the only functional state Academy in the Federation. The academy is a parastatal of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is an institute meant to train elite athletes, coaches and administrators in specialized areas in the rapidly evolving sporting industry.
However, on the 17th September, 2017 the Academy commenced sporting/academic activities with the secondary section.
So far a total of THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN students are admitted into the institute that is JSS1 – SSS3 of the secondary department.
The academy currently operates only comparative advantage sports such as Wrestling, Swimming, Karate, Boxing, Volleyball, Handball, Hockey, Basketball, Judo and Football with the hope of expanding our frontier to accommodate other sporting Associations whenever facilities are completed and put into use.

To be a hotbed of talent development. To train and produce champions. To develop leaders and positive contributors to society.
SPORTING ACTIVITIES
We are pleased to state that the Academy is ever determined to equip all her students with the requisite academics and sports capabilities to be able to contest and excel in National competitions as well as become future leaders.
Since its inception, our records have spoken volume about us and it is our aspiration to represent our great state, Bayelsa and Nigeria in National competitions.

TAKE-OFF OF THE CERTIFICATE/DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES
It is almost six years now since the institute commenced with Sporting/Academic activities of the secondary section on the 17th September, 2017. With each passing day, it becomes increasing important to kick-start the Diploma/Certificate programmes of the institution as more and more coaches and sports administrators are desirous to improve capacity. The programme would minimize the efflux of the coaches and sports administrators seeking to improve capacity to search elsewhere, which has been the case for some years now.
