Mr. Andrew Odenyefa Aye – From Athlete to Administrator, Now Leading the Charge
In a brief but symbolic ceremony on Thursday, August 14th, 2025, Sir Braveman Wodi officially handed over the mantle of leadership to Mr. Andrew Odenyefa Aye, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Bayelsa State Sports Council. With this appointment, Mr. Aye becomes the 12th Director of Sports in the Council’s history.


Personal Life
Mr. Aye is happily married, and the union is blessed with a daughter. His commitment to family mirrors his dedication to sports and public service.
Leadership and Service
Before assuming the role of Acting Director, Mr. Aye held several key positions within the Council, including Head of Department, Organizing. He also served as Chairman of the National Association of Physical and Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHERSD), Bayelsa State Chapter, where he championed physical education and grassroots sports development.
From Athlete to Administrator
Mr. Aye’s journey in sports began on the field. He is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s finest hockey players, representing the country as an international athlete from 1992 to 2003. His transition into administration was seamless. In 1995, he joined the Rivers State Sports Institute, Isaka, as an Instructor. His strategic acumen was evident during his tenure as Secretary of Bayelsa United Football Club from 2007 to 2011, and again in 2013 when he led the team to Premier League qualification.
Roots and Education
A proud son of Biseni Kingdom in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Mr. Aye pursued his academic training at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, earning a B.A. in Physical Education in 1993. His educational foundation laid the groundwork for a career defined by excellence, discipline, and vision.
