As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure, the Honourable Commissioner for Sports Development in Bayelsa State, Champion Hon. Daniel Igali (Oly), conducted an inspection tour of key facilities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

During an unscheduled visit en route to his hometown, the Commissioner made a brief stop in Anyama Community to inspect the construction of a wrestling gym initiated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The project, overseen by Hon. Dudei Week, Director of Procurement at the NDDC, reflects the growing collaboration between the Commission and the Bayelsa State Government.
Champion Igali expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work, emphasizing wrestling’s significance to Bayelsa’s sporting legacy.
“Bayelsa State is known nationally for producing top wrestling talents. This facility in Anyama is a step toward nurturing more champions from the grassroots,” he stated.
Later in Eniwari Town, the Commissioner inspected a newly constructed 200-seat capacity pavilion, a personal initiative aimed at supporting local sporting events and community gatherings. He commended the local leadership and contractors for delivering a multi-functional structure that promotes both sport and social cohesion.
“These facilities are not just about sports. They are about unity, youth engagement, and creating opportunities. Our aim is to take sports to every community,” Igali added.
The visit was warmly received by residents and community leaders, who expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment to inclusive sports development. The inspection aligns with the broader vision of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports Development to ensure every local government area has access to quality sports infrastructure.
