Bayelsa Queens have officially sealed their spot in the NWFL Super Six Tournament, following a commanding 2-0 win over Benue Queens on Matchday 11 of the Nigeria Women Football League.
The Yenagoa-based side notched their ninth win of the season, showing their class against the bottom-placed team from Makurdi in what proved to be a routine but effective performance.
Head coach Whyte Ogbonda rang in a few changes from the squad that edged Naija Ratels in the President Federation Cup, handing a debut start to Harmony John, a rising teenage star signed from Golden Sun Sports Club via the Prosperity Cup.
And the youngster didn’t disappoint — she made an instant impact by opening the scoring in the 10th minute after a goalmouth scramble, marking her debut with a dream start and giving the Prosperity Girls an early lead.
Despite dominating the first half, Bayelsa Queens went into the break with just a single goal cushion. After the restart, Coach Ogbonda introduced Vera Samuel, Dooshima Tarnum, and Precious Oscar—a move that added more urgency and attacking depth to the team.
Their persistence paid off when Olabiyi Alaba doubled the lead, heading home from a rebound after Tarnum’s effort crashed against the crossbar.
Although Benue Queens’ goalkeeper made several impressive saves to keep the scoreline respectable, Bayelsa Queens comfortably controlled the game from start to finish.
Speaking after the final whistle, Coach Whyte Ogbonda expressed satisfaction with the result:
“People expected more goals, but for us, the goal was three points — and we got that. The result gives us full confidence going into the Super Six.”
With qualification now secured, Bayelsa Queens will shift focus to their final regular-season clash against Adamawa Queens on Matchday 12.
