The groundbreaking ceremony for the 25,000-capacity Bayelsa stadium in Igbogene, Yenagoa, was officiated by former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who commended Governor Douye Diri and his team for their visionary initiative.

In his remarks, Governor Diri highlighted the stadium’s potential to inspire young people to pursue their dreams in sports. He described the project as a milestone in the state’s journey toward growth and development, emphasizing its role in nurturing talent and fulfilling aspirations.

Governor Diri also called on the private sector and International Oil Companies (IOCs) to collaborate in ensuring the project’s timely completion.

The event was graced by numerous dignitaries, including Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, members of the National Assembly, state officials, and prominent figures in sports and traditional leadership.
