In a fiery twist to the South-South Zonal Eliminations for the 9th National Youth Games, Bayelsa State has emerged as a force to reckon with—defying alleged sabotage and showcasing raw, untamed talent that has left spectators in awe.

Speaking at the Government Secondary School West Itam hockey pitch in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Acting Director of Sports for Bayelsa State, Mr. Andrew Aye, didn’t mince words. He condemned what he described as a “corporate gang-up” against Team Bayelsa by certain officials and members of the organizing committee, accusing them of foul play across multiple disciplines.
Against All Odds, Bayelsa Delivers
Despite the alleged hurdles, Team Bayelsa roared through the competition, qualifying in 8 out of the 10 events entered—an emphatic statement of resilience and excellence.
“We came here with a contingent of talented kids—true athletes with fire in their hearts,” Aye declared. “No amount of sabotage can dim their shine. We will qualify, we will compete, and we will win.”
A Contingent Fueled by Passion
The Bayelsa squad, known for its grassroots development and hunger for glory, turned heads with electrifying performances that silenced doubters and reignited the spirit of youth sports in the region.
With the National Youth Games set to kick off on August 26 in Asaba, Delta State, Team Bayelsa is not just heading to the festival—they’re storming it with purpose, pride, and a promise to bring home laurels.
